Honor has just presented technology that will allow you to launch applications on your smartphone with your eyes.
Like other Qualcomm partners, Honor took advantage of the Snapdragon Summit 2023 to make some announcements around its new range of smartphones. After the excellent Magic5 Pro, the Chinese are preparing to make a comeback with their sixth generation devices.
If we now know that Honor’s new flagships will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and that they should be marketed in the coming weeks, they also seem to want to evolve our uses with our smartphones.
Magic Capsule: Honor wants to use your eyes to launch your applications
As reported by The Verge, Honor CEO George Zhao took the stage at the Snapdragon Summit 2023, organized by Qualcomm. While he took advantage of this event to unveil a set of new features powered by artificial intelligence, Zhao attracted attention by presenting a somewhat unexpected feature: Capsule Magic.
If the name does not provide us with many clues as to the usefulness of this famous function, the opening speech from the boss of Honor nevertheless allowed us to get a more precise idea of what it will consist of.
Described as a “ multimodal interaction based on eye tracking », the Magic Capsule functionality will be one of the main new features expected on the devices in the Magic6 range. More concretely, this should allow you to launch an application by simply staring at it…
A feature that promises to be interesting, but which still remains murky
In the demo video, we can see a woman looking at her phone, launching an app with just a glance. A notification appears beforehand on the screen to indicate the direction to follow with the eyes, and thus open the application in its entirety. For now, Honor has unfortunately not provided details on how Magic Capsule works exactly, leaving us with some questions.
While this eye tracking technology could undoubtedly present many advantages in terms of accessibility, it must be admitted that it raises several questions related to its ease of use, or even user confidentiality.
In any case, the brand should not wait long before telling us a little more about Magic Capsule, the launch of the Magic6 range being logically scheduled for the beginning of 2024.

- Overall performance
- Remarkable screen
- Photo and video quality
At the end of our test, it is clear that Honor’s Magic5 Pro has everything of a flagship. Its performance is excellent, as is its screen. It has good autonomy and very decent fast charging. In addition, Honor has made good progress in terms of imaging. The camera largely keeps its promises, even if the AI sometimes gets caught creating background blur. The video is very good.
We said above that it had everything of a flagship. That’s true, including the price. Sure, it has 512 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM, but we still think that paying 1,200 euros for a smartphone is unreasonable. Unless you have a kidney left to sell?
