- Almost half of the population (46 percent) is against preventive shooting of wolves.
- 31 percent are in favor.
- This is shown by a survey by Yougov (formerly Link) that is described as representative.
The opponents of shooting justify their stance by saying that shooting is not necessary if farm animals are better protected. Among 18 to 29 year olds, only 20 percent are in favor of shooting animals before the animals cause damage, according to the opinion research institute Yougov (formerly Link). 26 percent describe wolves as important for biodiversity.
Those in favor of shooting them, on the other hand, argue that the wolf has no natural enemies and that the packs must be regulated by humans. 31 percent are in favor of preventative shooting. For half of 60 to 79 year olds, shootings are legitimate.
The population is concerned about the preventive shooting of wolves, as the survey further shows. A third said they had heard, seen or read something on the topic two to three times in the last three months. Another 34 percent discussed the topic weekly to daily.
