The failure of the Covid certificate on Friday evening affected holders of foreign certificates longer than people with a certificate issued in Switzerland. The Federal Office for Information Technology (FOITT) announced on Saturday.
Swiss certificates – they have to be shown when going to the restaurant, the cinema, the fitness center or at a football game, for example – were not recognized as valid by the Swiss app on Friday between 7.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. Foreign certificates, on the other hand, did not work normally again until 10.30 p.m.
Breakdown due to EU maintenance work.
One day after the federal certificate app failed, the FOITT also announced new details on the cause of the malfunction on Saturday. Accordingly, the Swiss system reacted incorrectly to maintenance work in the EU on Friday.
The BIT wrote that the keys required in Switzerland to recognize the certificates were deleted as a result of the maintenance work. The Federal Office restored the keys in the Swiss systems.
