32 pupils in secondary class 3B at the Döltschi school in Zurich have won Helpetica with their re-use project.

He has never been so close to the clouds! When Gabriel talks about the hike to the «Schlüechtli», he smiles all over his face. A total of 32 pupils in secondary classes 3B at the Döltschi schoolhouse in Zurich experience the for one week under local guidance Beverin Nature Park GR. The focus is on the topic of sustainability.

“We shook butter, widened a path with hoes, and got an explanation of solar systems and how they work. I’ll never leave the lights on in the whole apartment in the evening. ” “And I don’t shower that long anymore!” Dilara and Rosanna nod with conviction. Experiences like blindly feeling a tree, listening to the forest and collecting lark needles in order to cook caramels from them in the warehouse or to make lip pomade with the harvested resin complete the hit parade of the newly gained knowledge.

    In the Beverin Nature Park in Graubünden, the two secondary classes from Zurich discovered nature on hikes, with games, through lectures and experiments.

    Trees and plants had to be assigned, named and researched in teamwork.

    To be blindfolded through the forest, to feel a tree and then to find it again with your eyes open – not an easy exercise.

    Lip balms and lip glosses are produced outdoors.

An ideal deepening of their ReUse project in which they breathed new life into residual materials and old school desks – and thus won the UBS Helpetica Challenge. The call was to make suggestions for a more sustainable Switzerland.
