Tuesday was a national holiday in Austria, and van der Bellen had invited 300 people to the Hofburg to be vaccinated. The Johanniter relief organization was ready with vaccination doses in the offices of the official headquarters.
230 people registered for the visit, the others lined up spontaneously, as the presidential office reported. In front of the Hofburg, some opponents of vaccinations demonstrated against all corona measures.
Restrictions for the unvaccinated
With the campaign, van der Bellen wanted to help increase the vaccination rate. 63.7 percent of Austrians have so far been fully vaccinated against the corona virus.
Due to the increasing number of corona infections, the Austrian authorities have announced that the freedom of movement of unvaccinated persons will be restricted from a certain occupancy of the intensive care units with Covid patients. Depending on the bed occupancy, they are then either no longer allowed to go to bars or to cultural and sporting events, or they are not allowed to leave their house at all without a valid reason.
