For French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas (23, ATP 3), the ATP Masters in Paris has already ended due to an injury.
The tennis professional from Greece had to give up his second round match against the Australian Alexei Popyrin (22, ATP 71) when the score was 4: 2 in the first set due to arm problems.
“I haven’t given up a single time in my life, but it had to be today,” said the number three in the world.
While Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (24, ATP 4) made it through to the round of 16, Tsitsipas also described his task as a precautionary measure on the way to the ATP final of the season’s best eight players in Turin (November 14-21).
He is trying “to be careful for the next tournament, which is the most important for me,” said the 23-year-old. Tsitsipas refused to reveal the exact nature of the injury, but said it had been a problem for some time. (AFP)
