(CercleFinance.com) – Rio Tinto announces the appointment of Dominic Barton to succeed Simon Thompson as the new chairman of the board. He will join the board as of April 4 and will take the chairmanship at the end of the annual general meeting on May 5.
Simon Thompson will step down as Rio Tinto’s non-executive director and chairman at the same time on May 5, having served as chairman for four years and non-executive director since 2014.
A Ugandan-born Canadian, Dominic Barton spent more than 30 years with McKinsey & Company, nine of them as a Global Managing Partner and six as President for Asia. Most recently, he has been Canada’s Ambassador to China since 2019.
