SAS: passenger traffic jumps in December

(CercleFinance.com) – The Scandinavian airline SAS announced on Tuesday that it had transported nearly a million passengers in December, thanks to particularly strong activity during the end-of-year holidays.

The group says it welcomed some 977,000 travelers on board its planes last month, which corresponds to a jump of more than 150% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Its load factor stood at 57%, which marks an improvement of 24 percentage points compared to December 2020.

While the carrier says it has increased its capacity by 150% over the past month, it says the spread of the Omicron variant has had an impact on both demand and the availability of its staff, which ultimately affected the number of flights operated during the month.

SAS shares listed on the Nasdaq Nordic market lost 1.2% on Tuesday following the publication of these figures.
