Sales of the core Renault brand totaled almost 1.7 million vehicles, down 5.3 percent. The Renault brand was able to increase the share of electric and hybrid passenger cars sold in Europe.
It rose from 17 percent in 2020 to 30 percent in 2021. When it comes to sales, there are signs of recovery: Compared to 2020, the order volume of the Renault Group in Europe has doubled and the number of cars waiting for sale has decreased by 30 percent, it said.
The Renault Group is sticking to its course of concentrating on its most lucrative sales countries. When it comes to passenger car sales in Europe, 58 percent of sales are now made in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Great Britain. This is six percentage points more than in 2019 before the crisis, the carmaker said.
Renault recently blamed the lack of chips for part of the decline in sales. Because of the delivery problems with electronic components, around 500,000 cars could not have been built as planned. The chip shortage will continue to weigh on business throughout the year that has just begun, said CEO Luca de Meo last Thursday.
