Franco-German synchronization is all the more important as each of the two leaders is invested at the start of the year with a particular mission: Emmanuel Macron chairs the Council of the European Union and Olaf Scholz, the G7. Both are well aware that in order to advance European integration, deal with the escalation at the Russian-Ukrainian border and avoid EU marginalization, the Franco-German couple must speak with one voice.
