Korian welcomes government measures
for aging well at home and in institutions
Korian welcomes today’s announcements by Minister of Health Olivier Véran and Minister Delegate for Autonomy Brigitte Bourguignon “to guarantee more controls, more quality and more transparency in nursing homes” and assures the public authorities of its full support to enable their rapid implementation. While the care of the elderly and frail is at the heart of the concerns of the French, all measures to strengthen trust between residents, their families, and the staff responsible for accompanying them in the establishments must be implemented. This is the meaning of the steps initiated by Korian in recent years.
The announced control of the 7,500 French EHPADs over the next two years is an important decision to strengthen the confidence of families. Korian reiterates its attachment to the transparency of practices in the establishments, as its establishments in Germany are already all inspected each year.
The Government also wishes to engage all establishments in a “quality” approach via an external evaluation. This is the meaning of the approach initiated in 2019 by Korian with AFNOR, which has already made it possible to certify 53 establishments in France and 29% of establishments throughout the group according to the very strict ISO 9001 standards.
Similarly, it is proposed to facilitate the use of mediation within each institution. Korian was the first group to set up, in France and in three other European countries, a mediation service run by an independent personality.
The proposed measures concerning the training of staff in good treatment are also part of the perspective of the actions undertaken by the group. In addition to ongoing employee training, Korian has in particular rolled out a professional whistleblowing system in all countries, which can be carried out completely anonymously since 2021.
According to the Minister’s announcements, each establishment will be required to carry out and publish a satisfaction survey each year to better inform families. Korian welcomes the generalization of this practice, which will allow families to have real elements of comparison. As such, Korian asks Ipsos, in all its establishments in Europe, to carry out an annual satisfaction survey for residents and their families, both permanent and temporary residents.
Finally, the Government would like measures to strengthen the right of supervision over the practices of establishments, “particularly with regard to activities financed by public support such as care and dependency”. Here too, Korian is in favor of greater transparency on the proper use of the public funds entrusted to it, in order to reassure all its stakeholders. Korian has already embarked on this path, explaining that it had not, overall, achieved a margin on care and dependency allocations.
