DIY wall decoration: step by step instructions

Macrame is more fashionable than ever – no wonder, we definitely want to have this delicate knotting technique on our walls. You can now find out step by step how to make such a chic boho-style decoration yourself. Here we go!

Step 1 – cut and knot

Cuts the wool in 13 strips too, each should be about 1.5 to 2 m long. Fixes the two metal rings, e.g. B. with an adhesive strip. The smaller ring is inside.

The first strip is laid twice so that a loop is created. This will be a few centimeters pushed under the small metal ring. You pull the rest of the wool thread through the loop from above and pull it tight.

So do you for all wool threads. Try to tie the knots and threads as evenly as possible.

Step 2 – arrange the threads

Now split the middle strand of wool again in the middle and place it right over left and then the strands to the side.

Step 3 – knot macrame

The same, the right over the left, with all other strands!

This is how it looks when everyone has been laid like this:

Step 4 – knot pretzels

Now it is about the connection to the large metal ring, you are now working from the inside out.

Grab the bottom thread, pass it through the large metal ring at the bottom, lay the strand to the right so that a loop is created. Then pull the end through the loop – now it looks like a small pretzel. Tighten.

Now grasp the lower thread on the side and proceed in the same way and now alternately knot pretzels – until all are knotted:

Step 5 – hanging loop

Now you can fix the two rings at the top and at the same time attach a suspension for your DIY decoration. To do this, make a loop again, as with the starting knot, and tighten well:

Step 6 – final touch-up

So that the lower end looks nice and even, you cut it to size. Lay the threads in a straight line and in order (!) Next to each other. It is up to you whether you want a straight or a diagonal finish. It is best to fix the threads with a strip of masking tape and cut along them.
