72 motorway rest areas in France will offer fast charging before the end of the year

The problem of fast charging electric vehicles on long journeys will perhaps no longer be one by the end of the year in France, with the arrival of 72 new charging points spread over the motorways of the Hexagon, announces Sanef.

Sanef, which operates nearly 2,000 kilometers of motorways in France, has just announced a partnership with Totalenergies, Fastned and Engie to equip 72 service areas with fast charging stations before the end of 2022.

An important announcement for electro-mobility

The problem of long electric car journeys is still relevant as the first third of 2022 comes to an end. Indeed, while many vehicles offer more than 400 kilometers of WLTP range, when journeys exceed what the car is capable of covering, it can be worrying to see that you cannot easily find a fast charging point. , reliable, and close to highways.

The partial opening of the Tesla Supercharger network is great news, but locations are rarely on the highway, forcing many drivers to detour a few miles on their journey. The giant Ionity has meanwhile decided to establish itself on the motorway from the start of its French campaign, mainly on service areas operated by Shell.

Sanef’s announcement is therefore a great initiative for the 72 service areas that have been selected and where fast charging stations (up to 300 kW) from three different operators will be installed. Totalenergies will install 175 kW terminals, Fastned will open 18 stations with between 4 and 18 300 kW terminals spread over the Île-de-France, Grand Est, Hauts-de-France and Normandy regions, and Engie Solutions will deploy 84 charging terminals super fast too.

On average, there will be 7 charging points per service area operated by Sanef and various means of payment will be offered, in particular one-off payment directly by bank card, which will avoid downloading a mobile application or having to bring a a card from a recharge operator.

This payment facility was among the new features most requested by electric vehicle drivers and should therefore be received positively by the majority of electro-mobilists.
