Loving tribute to the late designer Virgil Abloh
Kylie Jenner, 24, was originally scheduled to attend the Met Gala in 2020 with late designer Virgil Abloh, † 41. However, due to the corona pandemic, the event was postponed and the two were thus deprived of the opportunity for their big performance. Because Kylie was very attached to the designer and his work, she chose to wear Virgil’s label Off-White to this year’s gala. She steps onto the red carpet in a white princess dress and baseball cap, but one important detail of her look is almost lost. In an image gallery on Instagram, the 24-year-old reveals that her gloves are inscribed “forever game,” a reference to a message the designer wrote her after meeting Anna Wintour. In the message, Virgil let the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan know that if she ever wanted to go to the Met Gala with him, he would be “forever game.”
Blake Lively and the fascinating story behind her dress
Blake Lively, 34, took extra care with her outfit as co-host of the 2022 Met Gala. Her Versace dress is based on the architecture of New York. For example, numerous rhinestones should represent the Empire State Building or the turquoise patina of the Statue of Liberty. Blake Lively’s diadem is also a reference to the famous statue: it has seven points, similar to Lady Liberty’s crown. The reference is reinforced with 25 stones meant to represent the statue’s 25 windows.
Hillary Clinton makes a political statement at the Met Gala
Hillary Clinton, 74, returns to the Met Gala red carpet after 21 years. She makes a grand entrance in a burgundy bespoke Joseph Altuzarra gown. It’s an appearance with a message, as the former first lady had the dress embroidered with 60 women’s names that have inspired her in her political career. Names include Rosa Parks, Lady Bird Johnson, Madeleine Albright, and Clinton’s mother, Dorothy Rodham, among others. Bill Clinton’s wife, 75, focused on heroines who have already died, otherwise the whole dress would be covered with names.
