Saturday May 14, 2022, Virginie Efira gave an interview to the Journal du Dimanche. During this one, the actress returned to her wardrobe accident during the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.
Mistress of ceremonies at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, Virginie Efira indulged in a few secrets in an interview with the Sunday newspaper. After talking about her best memories on the Croisette, the pretty blonde agreed to go back three years. During the presentation of the film Sybil, she had indeed stood out on the steps. “It was funny, even if it does not have much interest to tell it. I’m on the red carpet wearing lace-up shoes that come undone. I have two options: re-stamp myself or stop to re-lace them“, she remembered before slipping: “Apparently, sitting on the steps of Cannes is a small event. It created a stir among the photographers, until Niels (Schneider, editor’s note) came like a savior to help me. As if the progress of the world depended on my bloody shoelaces!“
With humor, Virginie Efira recalled: “I remember the face of my stylist, who thought he had made a serious mistake. But no, nothing is serious!” For The Telegramphotographer André Héliou, who covered the event, confided in May 2019. He then confided: “The incident happened in front of my place, at the foot of the stairs. There was not a photographer in front of me. On the mat, Virginie Efira called for help for the first time. A member of the film crew quickly looked at his shoe and told him it would be fine. Ten seconds later, she stopped short and sat down, because it was not going at all!“After explaining that Adele Exarchopoulos had leaned over to help him, he said:”It was finally his companion Niels Schneider who managed to solve the problem. Virginie Efira then climbed the steps.“
A cliché that has gone around the world
During this interview, the photographer had revealed: “She didn’t panic, although she was visibly worried that it wouldn’t last. But she arrived at the top and managed to take the traditional family photo before entering the Palais des Festivals.“To conclude, André Héliou added:”We know immediately that the image will go around the world. The photographers ask each other: ‘Were you well placed for the photo?’ Some were too far away, others were masked by a colleague.“
