It is a story as tragic as it is exceptional. It is that of a little boy with a serious illness whose doctor has mobilized all of Twitter. What purpose ? Make the child’s dream come true, before it’s too late…
The mobilization of an entire network
Dr. Erica C. Kaye is a pediatric oncologist who is very invested in these patients. So when a little boy with terminal cancer told her his dream was to play Pokémon Scarlet and Purple, she turned heaven and earth to make it happen.
Only problem, the game has not yet been released and Nintendo plans to make it available for the end of the year only, and if so, the child will not be able to play it. His doctor therefore launched a more than moving appeal on the networks.
So the magic of Twitter worked and thousands of people mobilized so that this message reaches the Nintendo and/or The Pokémon Company teams.
An encouraging response
Erica C. Kayethanks to the support of the Twitter community, quickly received a response from Eric Neustadter, Vice President of the Technology Department of Pokémon. The latter replied that he did not know if the child could play the game, but that he would do everything so that he could plan something especially for the little boy.
The last Tweet from Eric Neustadter specifies that the teams at Pokémon are currently working on this exceptional case, it is therefore quite possible that the little boy can realize his dream.
While Twitter is often a place of criticism and confrontation, this more than moving story proves to us that sometimes the network can be used wisely. We sincerely hope that the little boy can achieve his dream and will have the opportunity to play Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
