Queen Silvia: She mourns her brother Walther Sommerlath

Great grief in the Swedish royal family: Queen Silvia's brother has died. Walther Sommerlath succumbed to a brief illness, according to an official announcement from the palace.

The sad news from the Swedish court reached us on Thursday morning. Queen Silvia, 76, has lost her brother. Walter Sommerlath died last Friday at the age of 86. The Swedish royal family announced today.

Queen Silvia mourns her brother

"Walther Sommerlath, brother of Her Majesty the Queen, died on Friday, October 23rd, 2020 at the age of 86. He fell asleep after a short period of illness on Friday night in the Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge (Sweden, editor's note)." according to the palace's official statement. "I and my family are in great sadness and miss my brother Walther," explains Queen Silvia.

She already lost a brother

In mid-October the Swedish monarch brought her brother to Drottningholm Palace in Sweden. The reasons for this were not disclosed at the time. The 76-year-old has already lost a brother. Jörg Sommerlath died in 2006 at the age of 64 from cancer.
