I like to stay at home with these gifts

Christmas is just around the corner and, as always, you can't start thinking about the right gifts early enough. And: What do I actually wish for myself for Christmas? One or two of our editors at least already know what should be on their personal wish lists this year. One of them will report on it every week. Let yourself be inspired by these wish and gift ideas.

I admit it: every year I am surprised again when asked what is on my wish list. It always seems to appear out of nowhere. Absolutely impossible that they could have been seen coming. My brain then switches to draft, only a bale of hay blows completely empty through my head – nothing of ideas and wishes can be seen far and wide.

Most of the time, the void is then filled with requests for DVDs and records – because they always go for a music and film fan like me. But my family finds it boring in the long run and they don't really want to promote my taste. (It's okay, I couldn't wait until Christmas for the new album of my favorite band Die Ärzte "Hell" anyway.)

Concert and festival tickets are always a nice thing, but this time they are flat for the occasion. And now?

This year, the question of my gift ideas is part of my job – whether that spurred the brainstorming? No, but it gave me a little more advance notice and I could think about it in peace. The result is:

My wish list is gradually filling up

Knowing that one day I would have to fill this article with life or wishes, I started a few weeks ago to worry about what should be for Christmas. One morning while preparing my breakfast I got the first idea. Because I love waxy breakfast eggs – but I hardly ever succeed with my small saucepan. Conclusion: An egg boiler is needed. Fortunately for a single household like mine, there are now numerous smaller versions in which you don't have to provide a large family with boiled eggs. After a little research, I was against the noble WMF variant and for the much more beautiful in my eyes egg cooker decided by Krups. The ability seems to be the same – but the look just suits me better.

More inspiration? I can wish that for Christmas.

Against overexploitation

I've been wandering around my second dearest wish for a long time: TRX tapes, also called a sling trainer. If you don't know them: TRX straps are attached to the door frame or to a hook on the ceiling and can then be used for training with your own body weight. Depending on their fitness level, everyone can adjust the level of difficulty simply by changing their starting position.

I fell in love with this form of training years ago in a fitness studio – but with the price, which was not exactly cheap, I always wondered whether I would use it enough to justify the purchase. In the meantime I have come to the conclusion that it is worth it and so I keep my fingers crossed that Santa Claus will hear my wish.

He said there would be light …

… and there was light. Finally in my kitchen too. Because six months after I moved in, a bare lightbulb is still dangling from my kitchen ceiling. That should now slowly change. So I made up my mind. This was not so easy. Because there is no lack of beautiful models, just a willingness to make decisions on my part. But now it should be this one Ceiling lamp be made of wood. It will look good in my kitchen and, thanks to its simple shape and material, will lightly illuminate the small room.

A little fun can also be included

The winter will be long (slow?). Because while we and I used the time for long walks and bike rides in spring and summer, this type of activity will often fail due to the weather in the coming months. I lack alternatives – or not? Not at all, because I've decided to pick up a new hobby that will bring me through the winter months: painting. In addition to a coloring book for adults with great motifs on the subject of "Día de Muertos", in other words, the Mexican Day of the Dead, I decided on one or two pictures that are reminiscent of the childlike "Painting by Numbers" were ajar. That should keep my two left hands and I busy for a while.
