A week after taking part in the Brünig final, Werner Schlegel provided another exclamation point in Brugg.

The starting position before the final round was clear: Werner Schlegel had already secured victory. However, if Fabian Staudenmann were to put the East Swiss on his back for the first time at the end of the festival, the Guggisberger could also call himself the winner at the Northwest Swiss Wrestling Festival.

Schlegel Werner: No one who shares

The reason for this was Staudenmann’s additional gear, which gave him the opportunity to make up the 1.5 point gap to the 19-year-old in the decision. But even 14 minutes shouldn’t be enough for the Bernese Confederate to get the young Schlegel on his back in Aargau. For Schlegel, the 4th Kranzfest victory after being placed with Staudenmann is the greatest triumph of his young career so far.

With five wins, it was already clear before the final round that Werner Schlegel would triumph in Brugg. Only at the start of the celebration did the Toggenburger not achieve the top mark. The 9.75 points against the Confederate David Schmid should be the only blemish in an otherwise flawless score sheet. In the four duels that followed, he put Patrick Räbmatter, another Confederate, into the sawdust with a straight 10.

In the morning, other wrestlers had also provided the best entertainment on the banks of the Aare. For example, the Basel bidder Samuel Brun turned out to be an escape artist against the Swiss Lario Kramer: He freed himself from his predicament in the Münger mess and then threw the visibly surprised Kramer on his back.
