How the pricing table works
Folding smartphones are becoming more popular and Oppo has already shown its know-how with the Find N, which we took in hand a few months ago. This smartphone, which was inspired by the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold by sporting more compact dimensions, had many advantages to spare. Alas, its availability was limited to the Chinese market.
The Chinese firm, however, seems to intend to tackle this market more seriously. It would obviously develop a successor to the Find N, but also a model capable of competing with folding clamshell smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 or the Motorola Razr 2022. Information that we already had, since the brand team we had confirmed that they were working on the subject when the recent Reno 8s were launched.
the leaker Digital Chat Station, often very well informed, once again spoke about the subject via the Chinese social network Weibo. And he seems to know a lot about it on the technical sheet of the device…
A much larger external screen
He estimates that the device would be equipped with a 6.8-inch screen when unfolded, which would make it a rather imposing smartphone. The external screen could measure 3.26 inches. A larger surface than that of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which would probably allow more interactions. Oppo would obviously turn to Oled for the two slabs.
In photo, we would be entitled to a 32 Mpx Sony IMX709 sensor at the front. Enough to make quality selfies, on paper. It is not yet known whether the latter will be located under the screen or in a dedicated notch. On the back, it is a Sony IMX766 of 50 Mpx (used for example on the Find X5 Pro) which would be at work, supported by an ultra wide-angle of 8 Mpx.
The main challenge of these clamshell models lies in autonomy. We have indeed been able to see that this type of device has difficulty lasting a day in the event of sustained use. To hold on, the brand would have opted for a 4300 mAh battery. It remains to be seen whether general optimization can allow it to really make a difference in this market.
We of course advise to take this information with tweezers, but given the state of progress of the product, we imagine that Oppo will reveal more very soon.
