Severe weather in California: Winter storms cause devastation

In the American state of California, more than 30,000 people have already been evacuated due to strong winds and large amounts of water. 14 people have died so far.
Heavy rain and wind are common in the wintertime in the American state of California. What is new, however, is the intensity with which massive winter storms have been sweeping across the region for almost two weeks. Strong winds cause trees to be uprooted, and heavy rains cause flooding. Many residents are no longer safe in their homes, and almost 30,000 people have had to be evacuated from villages so far.
