The Netflix movie “JUNG_E: Memory of War” is a South Korean production directed by “Train to Busan” and “Hellbound” creator Yeon Sang-ho. It tells of a dystopian world in which combat robots controlled by AI are supposed to end a decades-long civil war.

In “JUNG_E: Memory of War” the earth was destroyed by the consequences of climate change. Mankind then fled into the vastness of space, which led to decades of civil wars.
To put an end to these wars, experienced soldier Yun Jung-Yi is sent on a mission. But something goes wrong and the young mother falls into a coma. Through the AI research project “Jung-E”, the warrior is brought back to life by her daughter. However, the experiment does not go as hoped.

The main cast of “JUNG_E: Memory of War” stars actresses Kim Hyun-joo and Kang Soo-yeon.
Kim Hyun-joo plays the gifted soldier Yoon Jung-yi, who falls into a coma due to a failed mission and is brought back to life as the eponymous character “JUNG_E”. Hoping to turn her into a super soldier who can end the war. Kim Hyun-joo is best known in Germany for her role as Min Hye-jin in the Netflix series “Hellbound”.
Actress Kang Soo-yeon portrays Yoon Seo-hyun, the daughter of the comatose Yoon Jung-yi, in “JUNG_E: Memory of War”. She is the head of the research project that brings her mother back as an AI soldier. In South Korea, Kang Soo-yeon was particularly well known as a child star. “JUNG_E: Memory of War” is the last film of the actress. Three months after filming ended, Kang Soo-yeon passed away in early 2022 at just 55 years old.
Another central role is played by Ryu Kyung-soo. The actor, also known from “Hellbound”, plays the scientist and head of the laboratory Kim Sang-hoon in “JUNG_E: Memory of War”.
JUNG_E: Production
“JUNG_E: Memory of War” is produced by Climax Studios on behalf of Netflix. The script was written by Yeon Sang-ho (“Train to Busan”), who also directed the movie. Also involved in the production were Byun Seung-min (“DP”) and Kim Yeon-ho (“Peninsula”). The three previously worked together on the Netflix series Hellbound.
A bleak future awaits us.
“JUNG_E: Memory of War” shows an eerie future in which wars have become so degenerate that only robots can end them. But as bleak as such a notion may be, the dystopian Netflix film still gives hope. “JUNG_E” is mankind’s unsuccessful yet successful experiment to clone a human being. With a lot of action and excitement, the film also touches with its depiction of longing between mother and child.
