Born out of wedlock, the first two children of Albert of Monaco, Jazmin Grace and Alexandre, are not in the line of succession to the throne of the Principality of Monaco. They do not meet all the criteria for inclusion.
The line of succession to the throne of Monaco is known, and can be found for example on the specialized English site Royal Central. In the lead, it is the children of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, Jacques and Gabriella, who are the suitors. As soon as he was born, two minutes after his sister, Jacques was named Hereditary Prince. Principality of Monaco succession rules are very strict and give priority to men. As the Principality’s Constitution explains, “the succession to the Throne, opened following death or abdication, takes place in the direct and legitimate descent of the reigning prince, by order of primogeniture with male priority at the same degree of kinship.” In other words, Jacques being the legitimate son of Albert II, it is he who appears at the top of the list.

But Jacques is not the first son of the prince. Before his marriage to Charlene, Albert II conceived two children out of wedlock: Jazmin Grace Grimaldi30 years old, fruit of his meeting with the American real estate agent Tamara Jean Rotolo on the Côte-d’Azur, and Alexandre Grimaldi-Coste19, born of his affair with stylist Nicole Coste. The two do not appear in the order of succession of the rock. The reason is simple: they were not only born out of wedlock, but their father did not marry their mothers after they were conceived. Thus, even if they were recognized by Albert II and can inherit his family fortune, they cannot be legitimized, and thus claim the succession to the throne. On the contrary, Louis Ducruet, Pauline Ducruet, Andrea Casiraghi and Balthazar Rassam could be legitimized a posteriori, their parents having married after their birth.

A positive reunion
Even if Jazmin Grace and Alexandre cannot claim the crown, it doesn’t seem to taint their relationship with their father. Albert II gets along very well with his first two children. In November 2022, the Prince appeared with them, seated with them in New York. The three appear united and very close, a wide smile on their lips. Their reunion, immortalized and published on Instagram by Nicole Coste, had aroused many positive comments.
