a 22nd child affected in the same region

On Wednesday September 16, the collective "Stop the cancers of our children" announced that a 22nd case has been observed in the same region. Distraught, he appealed to Emmanuel Macron.

Real risk zone? Or just coincidence? In the sector of Sainte-Pazanne in the Pays de Retz, in Loire-Atlantique, contaminations of pediatric cancers have followed one another for several years, leaving the inhabitants in great distress. Since 2015, a total of 22 children have contracted some form of cancer, five of whom unfortunately lost their lives.

The collective "Stop the cancers of our children" has therefore launched an appeal to the President of the Republic, following a new case of cancer diagnosed in a little boy living in Machecoul, suffering from leukemia at only 4 years old. "We call on President Emmanuel Macron to protect the health of our children", said Marie Thibaud, founder of the collective, quoted by France 3 Pays de la Loire, during a press conference organized in Saint-Hilaire de Chaléons, near Saint-Pazanne. "Children keep getting sick, things have to move", she continued.

A sector at risk?

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) counted 11 cases of cancer in this sector between 2015 and 2019, an incidence twice the national average. "Not six months go by without a child declaring cancer around us", insists Marie Thibaud, also the mother of a little boy in remission.

Suspecting a potential responsibility for this particular geographic area, the collective fought for the launch of an epidemiological investigation led by Public Health France and several other investigations, but the results failed to demonstrate anything.
In addition, seven new wind turbines are expected to be installed in a neighboring municipality, which the collective is fiercely opposed. According to him, the first cases of pediatric cancer began to appear a few months after the commissioning of the first, a little before 2015.
