A large-scale project, which aimed to install huge wind turbines in the east of the country, has just come to a sudden halt.

Wind power does not work very well in France, for a number of reasons. A new illustration of this problem has just been given in a project to install wind turbines nearly 250 meters high, which was scheduled to see the light of day in Saône-et-Loire. Project which has just been rejected by the prefectural authority.

An incomplete project

The company SaB Énergies Renouvelables (SaB EnR) may well never see its construction site for a wind farm using masts of nearly 250 meters see the light of day. A prefectural decree was in fact issued on December 29 to suspend examination of the file.

The project to build a wind farm in the municipalities of Marigny and Saint-Micaud (Saône-et-Loire) would be carried out by a “ file incomplete and not including sufficient elements to continue its examination », according to the prefecture.

SaB Energie Renouvelables has 12 months to offer an alternative

The shortcomings noted are multiple, and range from the potential endangerment of local biodiversity to poor consideration of the impact of the project on landscapes and local residents.

Residents who are massively opposed to this project, who have come together for this reason within an environmental protection association, intended to fight SaB EnR. Questioned by France 3, they felt relieved by this decision, and noted that “ the shortcomings accused of SaB are very serious. »

Still, the ruling is not final. SaB EnR was granted a new period of twelve months by the prefecture to completely review the site. If the company came back with a completely transformed file, the prefecture would respond accordingly within four months.
