This Saturday, July 30, a 3-year-old child fell from an 11th floor apartment in the Villeneuve district of Grenoble. Having escaped the vigilance of his family, the little boy did not survive.

Terrible drama in Grenoble in the Rhône-Alpes region. This Saturday, a 3-year-old child died in the middle of the afternoon after falling from the 11th floor of his family apartment located in the Villeneuve district. According to the first information, relayed by the regional daily Dauphine Libere, the little three-year-old boy would have escaped the vigilance of one of the parents present at the home: the father being absent at the time of the facts and the mother having left at the bottom of the building. Just before 4 p.m., the child would be mounted on a chair in front of the open window. Then, it would have fallen into the void in front of residents in shock. When the firefighters and paramedics arrived, the little victim was in cardiopulmonary arrest. Paramedics immediately tried to revive the boy. Then, the care continued in the ambulance which urgently transported the child to the CHU Grenoble Alpes. At the hospital, doctors finally pronounced him dead. His parents, shocked, were taken care of and transported to a specialized service. An investigation has been opened by the Grenoble police to determine the circumstances of this tragedy and investigators must in particular hear the parents, relatives and neighbors of the child.

Child falls: watch out for windows and balconies

Each year in France, approximately 20,000 people die as a result of an accident in everyday life. And with the heat, the risk of falling through the open window or the balcony increases for the little ones. Move furniture, chairs, beds, toy boxes or any other object that can be used as a stepping stone away from windows to the child. And, if possible, block the opening of windows with a security system.

And don’t forget that every room in your home has its dangers. With infants, accidents often happen when parents try to multi-task. Between 1 and 5 years old, one out of two accidents corresponds to a child falling from his own height. Data that requires us to remain vigilant.
