a baby cured after 70 days in intensive care

Nine days after birth, an infant had to be hospitalized because of Covid-19. His parents could not see him for several weeks …

An infant barely 3 months old has spent most of his life in hospital. Born in October, "in perfect conditions", in Spain, Petru was infected with Covid-19 at home, AFP reports. It was his brother who transmitted the coronavirus to him, himself being asymptomatic. It was therefore at the age of barely 9 days that the little boy had to be hospitalized.

"Petru is one of those exceptional cases" serious infection with Covid-19 in a child, and in particular in a toddler, explains the Vithas 9 de Octubre hospital in Valence in a press release. At first, the baby had "respiratory problems ", which were followed by "eating difficulties". Because of this, he was immediately placed in pediatric intensive care within the establishment.

Little Petru was hospitalized for 70 days. During this long period, his parents could not see him other than "video conference", until it tested negative. When her son was finally able to leave the hospital, his mother, very moved, thanked "from the bottom of the heart" the caregivers who took care of him. She also said that she felt "very supported at all times by all the staff" caregiver.

In Spain, as elsewhere in the world, Covid-19 in its symptomatic and severe form affects the vast majority of elderly people. Thus, between May and January, 66% of those who died were under the age of 80. Of the 21,382 cases in children under 2 over the same period, only twelve children died.
