Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best games of all time. This is an indisputable fact, but in recent hours it has been at the center of controversy.
With Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games has shown the extent of its talent by offering a work comparable to no other. More than five years after its release, the game even broke a historic attendance record on Steam with 72,628 players simultaneously. The Black Friday 2023 promotion helped enormously, but not only that. Despite its flaws, some are in love with the title like the first day. Perhaps even too much since it is turning against the software today. A recent event is still irritating an entire part of the RDR 2 community.
Red Dead Redemption 2 attracts the wrath of players
The Game Awards 2023 has had its share of controversies, but the Steam Awards 2023 are no exception. The first controversy was the awarding of the “Most Innovative Gameplay” prize to Starfield. Bethesda’s RPG may have many qualities, but this is not one of them for many players. At the same time, a new controversy has just arisen around Red Dead Redemption 2 this time. The game emerged as the big winner in the “unfailing love” category. A reward that represents the love of players? Not really.
No, the Steam Award “unwavering love” is there to recognize the follow-up provided by the developers. “This game has been out for a while. He took his first steps a long time ago, but, like a good mother, the team continues to mother and support his creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years”.
That’s the description, but the problem here is that it absolutely doesn’t match reality. Red Dead Redemption 2, for example, did not receive major additional content for its single-player, and Red Dead Online has been dead since 2022 since it is no longer updated. Last Halloween, Rockstar even reserved the same DLC already offered in 2021, 2022 and therefore 2023. On PC, it is the community which continues to improve this hit, like the latest impressive 8K mod.
The Steam Awards for best follow-up for RDR 2, a joke
Seeing Red Dead Redemption 2 be rewarded for its follow-up has clearly sparked controversy. “The game is the opposite of the price description, given that Rockstar abandoned it a long time ago.
