Oppo Zero Power Communication

Oppo has detailed its vision for a future in which some devices are batteryless.

A technology that could power small connected gadgets at first.

Towards the end of batteries at Oppo?

At the beginning of the month, Samsung formalized its brand new “Eco” remote control, delivered with its new Smart TVs. A remote control that not only incorporates a small solar panel, but also a function allowing it to be recharged using radio waves.
This type of technology is also studied very closely at Oppo, which recently released a (very) long document aimed at explaining its vision of ” Zero Power Communication “.

Concretely, we should soon be able to find in stores devices capable of operating without any battery on board. The latter would then draw their energy directly from the various signals (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile network, etc.) present in the air.

Obviously, it’s not (yet?) about enjoying a battery-less smartphone, but rather small gadgets. Oppo says this technology would massively reduce battery usage and therefore maintenance costs as well as environmental impact.

However, we will have to wait a little longer before being able to hold this first high-tech gadget completely battery-free and operating solely thanks to the energy contained in electromagnetic waves. For now, those good old physical batteries remain the backbone of our precious digital world.
