a big announcement out of nowhere, fans divided

A new Avatar: The Last Airbender game has just been revealed, but it’s already raising a lot of concerns. What does he have in store for us?

Currently, when we talk about Avatar: The Last Airbender (which we will shorten from now on), we mainly think of the live-action series on Netflix. The latter will soon be released, and it fascinates as much as it frightens. At the same time, it’s never easy to propose a live action adaptation. But against all expectations, a new announcement concerning the franchise was heard. A new game is in preparation and… it could cause misunderstanding among some people.

A new Avatar game is revealed, but there’s a catch

In the video game sphere, Avatar has not always been a great success. You only need to look at the feedback on Steam for Quest for Balance to see this. The title, released in 2023, greatly divided the community. On Valve’s platform, it ended up with an average of “Mostly Negative” for 71 reviews. A score that doesn’t make your mouth water. So, fans were hoping that another production would come and make up for it. An adventure that everyone would agree on. However, the dream may not come true.

The announcement was made a few hours ago: Maximum Entertainment has signed a partnership with Paramount Consumer Products to develop an Avatar game. So far, nothing scary, but we were treated to a little description of the principle. And that’s the rub. It’s obviously going to be a multiplayer fighting game, and that’s raised some eyebrows. We observe doubtful and even fearful opinions, but we must qualify all of this. In fact, we didn’t even have an image to put our minds to, so we’re not going to judge too quickly. For information, it will arrive in early access in 2025, without further details.

You’ve probably guessed it, but it’s not yet clear who the studio in charge of this massive project will be. Theories are rife, and some players think it will be given to PlatinumGames. For good reason, he is the one behind The Legend of Korra, and as we are still in the Avatar universe, he could well come back for a new production. But it’s important to note that Maximum Entertainment recently restructured into a single company, consolidating its publishing labels (including Maximum Games). Consequently, the firm can absolutely decide to take care of it, which would not be devoid of logic.
