Another big upcoming console-exclusive service game on PS5 is once again the victim of leaks, and concern is looming after the intergalactic flop of Concord.
Despite the colossal and historic failure of Concord, pulled the plug just two weeks after its release, the PS5 is still waiting for another similar big service game as a console exclusive. But while things are not looking good within its studio, some employees clearly needed to get some things out. And it doesn’t look good for the future of this title that has already been pushed back several times.
Is the PS5 preparing for another Marathon to the belly?
In addition to continuing its work on Destiny 2, Bungie is developing behind the scenes a return to its first love with Marathon, a priori expected in 2025 on PC and PS5. Let us recall that the talented studio recently suffered a wave of layoffs. Morale within it does not seem to be at its best, and some developers clearly had a lot on their minds. They contacted Paul Tassi at Forbes and shared more details on this multiplayer FPS service game, with hints of hero-shooter. Did someone say a similar formula to Concord?
The upcoming title on PC and PS5 would also be, like Concord, put on the market at a price of 40 euros, with a Battle Pass and an in-game store in addition. Its development would apparently be too advanced to backpedal to a free-to-play model. In any case, it would be another hero-shooter, with different characters with their own characteristics and skills. We should be able to make them evolve via talent trees, passive bonuses and implants. It would also be a question of recovering weapons and other loot during matches, which we will also be able to improve.
The whole thing will display a very futuristic science fiction artistic direction, as seen in the Marathon announcement trailer shared last year. After many postponements, the title would arrive in any case in 2025 on PC and PS5, with a proper presentation that should take place in the spring. While the failure of Concord is still fresh in people’s minds, will this PS5 console exclusive from Bungie experience a happier fate? At least that’s all we wish for this talented studio that has recently been showing worrying signs of poor health.
