Sony is currently rolling out a new system update for PS5 which is far from being stingy with new features. The latter indeed brings several features that were in beta until now, such as Dolby Atmos support and compatibility with 8 TB SSDs. Other Android devices are also now entitled to PlayStation Remote.
We told you about it this summer: Dolby Atmos was entering beta on the PS5. He was not alone, since support for 8 TB external SSDs had also been added. Today it is time for Sony to deploy these new features for the general public, via a new update which should soon arrive on your console if this is not the case yet.
On its blog, the Japanese firm therefore presents all the new features arriving on its PS5 with this update, and we can say that it has not been idle in recent weeks. Dolby Atmos and external SSDs are therefore on the program, but also new accessibility features and changes to social functions. A quick overview.
Everything new in the latest PS5 system update
So let’s start with the overall deployment of the Dolby Atmos on PS5s. You will of course need to be equipped with a compatible device to take advantage of it, whether it is your television, a soundbar or speakers connected to your console. This will allow games to broadcast much more realistic and immersive sound, because it is directly anchored in 3D space. Here’s how to enable the option:
- Since the Settings, go to the tab Her
- Then select Audio output
- In the section Generalclick on the option Audio format (Priority)
- From the drop-down menu, select Dolby Atmos

The other big new feature of this update with support for 8TB M.2 SSDs, which is double the maximum capacity formerly supported on the PS5. Thanks to this update, players will be able to store a lot of games on their console, without having to compromise on the performance allowed by the SSD format.
Note also the addition of televisions running Android TV OS 12 to the list of devices compatible with PS Remote Play. As a reminder, this application allows you to stream your PS5 on a second screen as long as the device and the console are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. To date, two new devices are already compatible:
- Chromecast with Google TV, 4K model
- BRAVIA XR A95L
A major new accessibility feature is also appearing. This allows to use two controllers at once, as if it were just one. A big step forward for people whose disabilities don’t allow them to use a single controller, or for players who need a little help to get through a level. Here’s how to enable the option:
- Since the Settingsgo to the tab Accessibility
- Then select Controllers
- Click on use a second controller for assistance
- Enable the option Use an auxiliary controller
- Turn it on second controller
- Select a user profile for the second controller
Small notable addition, it is also possible to activate haptic feedback from your controller in system menus of the PS5. Your Dualsense will then react organically when you reach the end of a scroll section, check a box or when you receive a notification. Here’s how to take advantage of it:
- Since the Settingsgo to the tab Accessibility
- Then select Controllers
- Enable the option Haptic feedback when navigating the console
Finally, some changes have been made to the interface, particularly in the social part. Players can now see a preview of one of their friends’ streams before joining him, or react to messages with emojis. It is also possible to search for a game in your game library by typing its name.
