A breeder spares his 2800 hens from the slaughterhouse

Refusing to see his 2,800 laying hens end up like every year at the slaughterhouse, a farmer decided to sell them to individuals to give them a second life.

Baptiste Stalin has been raising chickens outdoors for five years in Beauval-en-Caux (Seine-Maritime) and he could no longer see his animals ending up in the slaughterhouse. The latter was thus deeply marked by the renewal of its 2,800 laying hens at the end of its first year of operation, according to Le Parisien. The follower of organic farming had to call on a local slaughterhouse to dispose of it. An action that is customary in his profession.

"It was the first time I saw this with hens crammed into cages on a truck, some with legs stuck in the gates. And even if we were respecting the sanitary rules, I was disgusted. "year, we take care of them. They make us live. And there, we treat them this way … I swore it was the last time", he tells the Parisian.

The farmer therefore decided, the following year, to sell his hens to individuals for 2 or 3 euros, via social networks. A way to give them a second life. And thanks to word of mouth, all birds are sold. Since then, he has repeated this action every year.

"At the end of May, in four days, all were reserved. Some take up to 100 and redistribute them around them, to the Paris region. I even have people on the waiting list. All have the impression of doing a good deed. Today in terms of image, it is rewarding to show that we respect our animals. I realize that I have a lot of positive feedback because more and more people want quality products while knowing how we work and how we treat our animals, "adds Baptiste Stalin to the Parisian.

A beautiful initiative that we can only welcome.
