The latest Windows 11 update brings an amazing concern to some users. When a VPN is activated, the connection speed can drastically drop. A very annoying problem that does not affect everyone. Microsoft has opened an investigation.
Who says Windows 11 update says new features… but also new problems. Many users have indeed noticed that the optional update KB5025305 brought problems at the connection level. That specifically relates to VPNs.
As Bleeping Computer reports, this update affects L2TP/Ipsec VPN connections. Concretely, the Internet is slow, very slow. The site talks about a speed of 1 Mbps instead of the usual 100 Mbps. A bug synonymous with major handicap, therefore.
Windows 11 slows connection speed over VPN
Reports indicate that, oddly, not all PCs are affected. Moreover, wired connections seem to be spared. Curious. On Reddit, the subjects evoking this bug are multiplying. It does relate to VPNs though, since connecting without is completely normal. Microsoft takes the problem very seriously and says it is investigating. If the bug is found quickly, it will still take a few days before a fix is deployed. In the meantime, there are only two solutions to circumvent it: revert to the previous version of Windows 11 or use a good old Ethernet cable if possible.

VPN issues aren’t the only ones in this KB5025305 update. Indeed, some users have noticed other bugs, such as the inexplicable drop in write speed on SSDs, in-game performance issues or the total shutdown of the PC when asked to restart. Fortunately, these concerns seem less widespread.
