a bunch of games playable for free, do it very quickly

For a few days only, Steam is once again offering free testing of a whole host of games, including big titles that are highly scrutinized by players.

After getting the free Epic Games Store game of the week, why not do the same on Steam? Right now, and until next week, Valve’s platform allows you to temporarily get your hands on a multitude of games without spending a euro. And it’s not the back catalog, but rather new releases and even upcoming releases sometimes eagerly awaited by PCists. We take a quick look at what you can find beautiful, even if it is (very) far from being exhaustive and these are not complete versions.

Hundreds of free games on Steam

If you have a PC and a Steam account, now is the time to go to the store to find your future video game cracks. On the occasion of Néo Fest, an event that celebrates upcoming video game releases, more than a hundred free demos are available now for a few days. “Play free demos. Watch live dev streams. Add your favorite titles to your wishlist to receive notification when they are released! » specifies the store. It doesn’t refuse, especially since, thanks to this, you will be able to form a first opinion on future titles. And there is something for absolutely all tastes, in all genres, alone or with others. STR, survival, horror, metroidvania, 4X, FPS, it’s impossible not to find something that suits you.

For this edition of Neo Fest 2024, you will find some of the most anticipated Steam games of 2024, such as Homeworld 3 which is part of the top 50 most popular games in users’ wish lists. A science fiction RTS which will be released on March 8, 2024. Publisher Paradox Interactive (Victoria 3) will also push a historical 4X strategy game: Millenia. A title that will leave you writing “an epic story based on your actions”with the beginnings of humanity and the probable futures that you decide to shape.

One of the big sensations of Steam Neo Fest 2024 is also Stormgate. Another real-time strategy game designed by big names in the discipline: Tim Morten (StarCraft 2) and Tim Campbell (Wasteland 3). A great preview since there is no release date yet, and the demo, which is an open beta, is not only reserved for those who financed the project on Kickstarter.

Endless demos as part of Neo Fest 2024

Horror also has its place in the Steam Neo Fest 2024 with the presence of several games that seem promising. Dread Dawn is intended to be an open-world survival game where you play as a student who was “forgotten” during the evacuation of the quarantined city. What follows is an exploration of the zombie-infested city to find resources, in order to create a camp and improve it inside the school. And you can even have your own chickens to have fresh eggs every morning.

Backrooms takes up a phenomenon that exploded on the Internet and which quickly spread in video games as quickly as the Phasmophobia clones. “Backrooms” refer to strange and potentially disturbing liminal spaces, such as long corridors or empty offices. “Immerse yourself in a liminal space that blurs the line between dream and reality” indicates the game’s Steam page. A co-op exploration title that includes a level editor, and has a VHS filter (a la Outlast, among others). This is obviously only a very meager listing and expect to get demos of Dungeonborne, Soulmask, Pacific Drive, Tribes 3: Rivals, Children of the Sun…
