A cashier comes up with a diabolical subterfuge to pay off her debts

In Meurthe-et-Moselle, a supermarket employee found an original solution to repay some debts by offering a gigantic sum of groceries to certain customers.

It is in the town of Toul, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, that a supermarket was scammed out of several thousand euros because of one of his employees. As reported by our colleagues from The Republican Eastthe cashier who works in this small town near Nancy had a problem: big debts to pay. Whether it was to a few family members or even to acquaintances, large sums of money to be repaid pushed her to put in place a strategy that paid off… up to a point. It still took a year for the scam to be discovered, a year after which the cashier’s employer offered, without knowing it, the equivalent of 24,000 euros of shopping to eight different people.

While she is crumbling under debt, the cashier decides to offer her creditors come and do their shopping in the store where she works, at low cost. The scheme is simple: the people to whom she owes money come to do their shopping and go to her checkout. When scanning the items, the cashier cancels almost all of them, placing them as paid items anyway. This allows her to beep the items so she doesn’t look too suspicious, while still being able to undo most of the receipt. Ingenious, the cashier also had devised another scheme. To allow the largest carts full of groceries to pass, she also accepted, always according to The Republican Eastdiscount cards not valid.

The accused immediately confessed

Predictably though, the accumulation of all those unpaid errands eventually showed. I have to say that the store suffered a loss of more than 24,000 euros in a year, enough to get noticed not only by supermarket officials but also by the police. When she was arrested in early May 2022, the cashier also immediately admitted the facts. She explained that she had debts to four members of her family and four other people and wanted to repay them in this way. Our colleagues from The Republican East report thatshe will be tried in November 2022 next and that in addition, three of his relatives will have to appear in court in the process.
