Fengshen, a new Chinese super-production Lord of the Rings style, has unveiled a spectacular trailer. The film, which hits theaters this summer in China, will be the first in a trilogy based on the Middle Kingdom’s most famous fantasy novel: Fengshenyanyi.

Called The Investiture of the Gods in French, this work dates from the 16th century. The story tells of the fierce struggle between the last Shang king and the founder of the Zhou dynasty. In 2019, variety revealed that this “Chinese Lord of the Rings” would cost a whopping $445 million for the trilogy!

The release of the first episode was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Three years after showing a first teaser, Fengshen finally unveils an absolutely epic long trailer, ahead of its release in China on July 20th.

“When you see the level of detail on the sets, it’s like The Lord of the Rings, but even more massive”, confided the director, Wuershan, to the microphone of Variety. Gargantuan monsters, special effects, sets, costumes, stunts and mind-blowing fights… The first images of the feature film are impressive.

Will Fengshen manage to cross the borders of the Middle Kingdom to land in France? Nothing has been announced about this yet.
