A new adventure against Walking Dead zombies is available for French fans. It’s up to you to prove that you have your place in this new world.
Just like many comics, the Walking Dead license has had the right to many adaptations; like the very famous series of the same name which ended with 11 seasons, but which continues with several spin-offs. Video games have not escaped this phenomenon with, for example, The Walking Dead by Telltales Games, awarded as the “best game of the year” in 2012 at the Video Games Awards. The same cannot be said of TWD Destinies, released last year, which could win the title of worst game of the year hands down. Suffice to say that with such adaptations, fans feel neglected, but they will be able to get their hands on a more complete game soon.
A new Walking Dead game arrives in France
The Walking Dead license returns with a new role-playing game thanks to AMC Networks and Free League Publishing and presented by Arkhane Asylum Publishing in France. Yes, what could be better than a universe where every choice counts to survive and not end up as a zombie to create a role-playing game? Several elements will need to be taken into account. For example, there is stress in the face of a situation which, if poorly managed, can lead to death.
You will be able to play characters inspired by the series The Walking Dead or just a simple inhabitant of a city forced to fight against extinction. Your future is partly governed by the occupation you had before the virus (Criminal, Doctor, Farmer, Stay-at-home parent, etc.). For example, if you decide that you were left behind, you will start the game with more agility and discretion, because no one knows you from the world before.
It’s up to you and your game master to manage internal conflicts in the group, to survive the undead. It will also be necessary to supervise the resources necessary to overcome these challenges. Note that even if there is nothing graphic, the events can still be violent and very dark. They are not suitable for all audiences.
Several offers available
Behind this new title, we can find Nils Hintze (Tales from the Loop, Vaesen) in design. Joe LeFavi is producing (ALIEN and Blade Runner role-playing games). The latter also transposed the rules of these two works to Walking Dead. They are above all designed not to hinder the immersion of players. For now, The Walking Dead Universe: The Official Role-Playing Game is only available for pre-order via the fundraising campaign. Shipments are planned for the end of 2024.
As with each pre-order campaign, several levels are planned. Don’t expect as many as those from Avatar Legends or the RPG Assassin’s Creed. For the moment only a bonus is at stake: the essential block of character sheets, offered to all contributors if funding reaches 30,000 euros. For those interested, here are the rewards available:
