GENEVA (Reuters) – Residents of the Gaza Strip are risking their lives to find food, water and other essentials as infrastructure is “on its knees” in the face of the Israeli onslaught, a government official said Friday the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The system in Gaza is on its knees, it is more than on its knees,” lamented Christian Lindmeier, spokesperson for the WHO, to the press in Geneva. “All life lines in Gaza have been more or less cut.”
Christian Lindmeier said the situation was now “desperate”, as the “hunger riots” which left more than a hundred dead on Thursday showed.
“People are in such dire need of food, fresh water and other materials that they are risking their lives to obtain food and materials to support themselves and their children,” he said. the spokesperson.

A senior U.N. humanitarian official told the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday that a quarter of Gaza’s population was close to starvation and that widespread famine could be “almost inevitable” if no action was taken.
