a difference in treatment between woman and man

According to a study published in the journal Neurology, following a stroke, women are 13% less likely to have an anticoagulant treatment than men.

First cause of death in women (110,438 cases of hospitalization in 2014, in France, according to Public Health France), stroke (stroke) would not be treated in the same way between the male and female . The study published in the journal Neurology, shows that after having a stroke, patients would be 13% less likely to have an anticoagulant treatment than men.

The text refers to another meta-analysis which showed that between 2000 and 2008, the difference between the two sexes was 30%.

The specialists dissected 24 studies published between 2008 and 2018 bringing together more than a million patients victims of a stroke. "Additional research is absolutely necessary to understand why this gap persists and if it continues to narrow"Mathew Reeves, co-author of the study, said in a statement.

Why this difference?

This difference in management is linked to symptoms that are not the same in women. And in most cases, vascular disease is considered a "male" problem. However, hormones, the pill, pregnancy and menopause put women at risk. According to the French Cardiology Federation, almost 2/3 of the women who die would not have had conventional alarm signals. Symptoms tend to be minimized by women, who think they are due to stress or fatigue.

INSEE was already interested in this gap and explained that from the age of 50, there are more women living alone than men. As a result, among those over 80, 62% of women live alone, compared to only 27% of men. So, when they have a stroke, care can be delayed or even arrive too late, because of this loneliness.

Another piece of data once again reveals this difference. In 2017, Le Figaro recalled that the last clinical trials aimed at evaluating the effect of new oral anticoagulants (NACOs) included less than 40% of women.
