“A disaster”: Alain Duhamel’s very cash opinion on Emmanuel Macron’s campaign

Alain Duhamel was the guest of C à Vous this Friday, April 8th. The opportunity for him to discuss the campaign of Emmanuel Macron.

Elected President of the Republic in 2017, Emmanuel Macron has been at the head of the country for five years. A few weeks ago, the head of state finally formalized his candidacy for the presidential election, after having left doubts for a long time. Very busy with the Covid-19 pandemic and now the war in Ukraine, the President of the Republic has had a very short campaign. This was very noticed by Alain Duhamel, who, guest of the show C à Vous this Friday, April 8, did not hesitate to give a very cash opinion. “Emmanuel Macron’s campaign, of course there is the excuse of Ukraine, but she was incredibly late“, he first started before adding: “Extremely clumsy at the start“. The reason ? “His press conference was a disaster and it’s very serious“, he assures. According to the words of Alain Duhamel, the Head of State has “spoke for four hours and we learned nothing except two unpleasant things. Retirement at 65 and the RSA. That’s called a disaster“, he claimed. A campaign that has “started last saturday except that a presidential campaign is not ephemeral. It’s a marathon“, he concluded.

The first round of the presidential election is fast approaching since it takes place in only two days. For Alain Duhamel, the abstention rate could be high, which could be beneficial for some candidates. According to his words, a duel between Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron is very likely in the second round. “The dynamic is very clearly in favor of Marine Le Pen“, first assured the political journalist. If this is the case, Alain Duhamel indicates that it will be a “battle between two rejections. A first in France for a presidential election“. For his part, he specifies that the current President of the Republic has a chance of being re-elected, in particular because the current situation is in his favour.”Maybe he will. I mean today, there is more of a 60% chance that it is him than Marine Le Pen but the French are not aware of what has been going on for a year and for a month“, he continued before adding: “There seems to be a general exhaustion and we have a campaign that was delayed compared to ukraine, to covid, which was frustrating because he waited until the last moment but also worrying“.

Emmanuel Macron: how did he formalize his candidacy?

Many candidates, such as Anne Hidalgo, Marine Le Pen, Valerie Pécresse or Eric Zemmour, had quickly announced their candidacies but Emmanuel Macron had left doubt until the last moment. It was only on March 3 that he addressed the French in a letter published in the regional press. A step that put an end to a long suspense and that had not gone unnoticed. Since then, the Head of State has launched his campaign and he has held only one and only meeting, on April 2 at La Défense Arena in Paris.
