a famous minister soon to be sacked from the government?

The saucepans of the French government have not finished making noise… In this month of July, a new case is added to the others already in progress. Then the complaints against Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, Secretary of State for Development, for a case of gynecological violence. Now it is the turn of another minister to find himself in the spotlight. This is Caroline Cayeux, Minister in charge of Local Authorities and she even risks losing her place.

The famous minister is talking about inglorious remarks she made in April 2013 against marriage for all. These remarks resurfaced on July 11 when a group of elected left-wingers published a column in the Têtu magazine to demand the departure of three ministers. According to Le Canard Enchaîné, the minister could well leave her post. “Nothing will happen in the short term, but Cayeux will have two balls at his feet. She will eventually leave. She will leave, maybe even on her own, because it is untenable” confides another minister to the newspaper.

Emmanuel Macron: “it is unacceptable and stupid”

In 2013, Caroline Cayeux did not weigh her words and described marriage for all as a “reform of whim and design that goes against nature”. This Tuesday, July 12, while she was trying to apologize for her words, she’s going to sink even more by saying to have “many friends among these people”. Words that did not fail to make the President of the Republic react. “This is unacceptable and stupid” says Emmanuel Macron. Clément Beaune finds this “aberrant” and adds that he too does “part of those people”. Le Canard Enchaîné specifies that following this statement by Caroline Cayeux, she would have barely been greeted by her colleagues at the meeting. On July 16, the Sunday Journal published a forum to denounce the behavior of Caroline Cayeux. Among the signatories are Jack Lang and Nelson Monfort. “How to accept the remarks made by the Minister in charge of Territorial Communities, on the eve of the National Holiday ?” can we read. “How to accept that a member of the executive, whose primary role is to ensure the application of the laws, can call “those people” French citizens?” continue the authors. For the moment, it is impossible to know if Emmanuel Macron and Elisabeth Borne will dismiss the minister. One thing is sure, this case is far from over.
