Fanatec, one of the big names in flying on PCbut also on consoles, is therefore in the process of changing hands.
If there is a brand that we no longer introduce to PC users and, even more so, to PC gamers, it is Corsair. The American company has become almost an icon.
Present in practically all segments, Corsair is nevertheless trying to add a new string to its bow by looking into the case of Fanatec, a German manufacturer of renowned high-end steering wheels.
The current owner of Fanatec in difficulty
We might as well say it right away, there is no question yet of validating this acquisition on the part of Corsair. The American company simply announced “ the continuation of the acquisition of Fanatec “.
Currently, Fanatec is owned by the German company Endor AG. This brand is in great difficulty after mixed results in certain sectors and, above all, a cumulative debt “ approximately 70 million euros », as Corsair specifies in its press release.
Such a debt seems difficult to support by Endor AG, which is therefore in negotiations with Corsair to separate itself from one of these assets, the Fanatec brand. Neither Corsair nor Endor AG, however, specifies who initiated these negotiations or what the amount of the buyout could be.
A buyout beneficial to both parties
If we are to believe the press release published by Corsair (Endor AG has so far remained silent), the two parties seem to have started on a good basis, and the takeover would in reality only await approval by the authorities Germans.
“ Fanatec is an incredible brand with a strong community, and we believe Corsair is the perfect home for Fanatec’s loyal customers, employees and business partners said Andy Paul, CEO of Corsair. He adds : ” This transaction would resolve the company’s significant debt load, and position it for continued growth and expansion of its product portfolio. »
Almost the same story with Andres Ruff, responsible for the restructuring of Endor AG. “ We are very pleased to have found in Corsair a strategic investor who knows our market well and wishes to invest for the long term. »
If both parties seem delighted with the operation, the interest in Corsair seems obvious as the American brand tries to diversify and touch absolutely all segments of PC gaming. Remember that, for example, in December 2019, it was Scuf Gaming, a specialist in high-end gamepads which was bought by Corsair, without the amount of the transaction having been made public.
