A footballer from the Martinique team arrested with more than 100 kilograms of cocaine

An amateur football player was arrested at Roissy airport in possession of drugs. According to the first elements of the investigation, the man, arrested with his partner, had more than 100 kilograms of cocaine in his suitcases.

Coming from Fort-de-France, the two travelers were checked by customs officers on their arrival at Paris airport, said the source familiar with the matter. In their luggage were discovered respectively 50.7 and 53 kilos of cocaine.

Midfielder for the Aiglon du Lamentin club (central Martinique) in Regional 1, Jean-Manuel Nedra, 29, is well known in the world of Martinican football.

“Without knowing his degree of involvement, we have learned that one of our players was arrested at Roissy for smuggling drugs,” said Aiglon du Lamentin in a short message to the local press.

Presented to an examining magistrate

“Let us be stronger than ever and united to continue our work of education through sport, to fight against this scourge, to protect and alert our young people to the risks, consequences and abuses of this environment”, added the club.

The couple was presented to an investigating judge on Wednesday, the prosecution said. The young man was placed in pre-trial detention and his companion released under judicial supervision.

The imprisoned sportsman has also been a member of the Martinique football team for more than 10 years. He was traveling in a personal capacity when he was arrested.
