Former candidate of the “New Star”, Charles participates in “The Voice” this Saturday, March 11 in the hope of highlighting the orphan disease of his 6-year-old son.

This Saturday, March 11, fans of musical telecrochets may recognize one of the candidates of The Voice. In this third session of blind auditions is Charles, now 35 years old. Nineteen years ago he had participated in the New star. In an interview with the daily 20 minutes, the father of the family explained the reasons for his return in front of the cameras. For the occasion, it will be accompanied on stage by his companion Éliane, who will translate the lyrics of her song, “Fais-moi une place” by Julien Clerc, into sign language.

The reason for this special staging? Their 6-year-old son, Lucien, is suffering from an orphan disease. “Our son has Brown-Vialetto-van Laere syndrome. (BVVL). VSis an orphan disease – there are a hundred patients in the world – which affects the nerves”explained Charles, before specifying that their son has become deaf around the age of 4: “It was a test for us. There are still solutions. The most suitable for communicating with our children, cis sign language. Todaytoday, Lucian is 6 years old. He no longer says a word but he manages to make himself understood with signs. And to add about his partner translating the song into sign language: “We wanted Lucien, when he is older, to understand the text by seeing his mother sign.”

Highlighting their association

Promote their association La Petite Bulle de Lulu and call for donations is essential for Charles. Stating that the association is “connecteded directly to the Cure RTD foundation which, in the United States and Canada, does research on the disease”the singer is grateful to “to be able to talk about this disease at prime time and raise awareness”. But he doesn’t forget either the impact that the show can have from TF1 on his career: It can be a spotlight, a great springboard.” The one who finished fifth in the New star revealed to the daily that Amel Bent, another candidate of the same promotion, and juror of The Voice, didn’t recognize him. And to conclude, a little fatalistic: “Nineteen years have passed, I can understand.”
