Returnal kept promises by making some announcements for its last anniversary. But the PS5 exclusive players quickly became disillusioned despite the gift offered.
Happy birthday to Returnal who recently celebrated their third birthday! Three years of exclusivity delighting PS5 users, but also the PC community for over a year now. It’s not necessarily a mass grave age, but the Housemarque studio nevertheless felt the need to do something for the occasion. New products of another kind are arriving and one of them is even available for free now.
Goodies for Returnal announced, including one free
“Another year, another cycle” indicated Housemarque on its X account. The studio had met with fans for announcements, and the latter had imagined everything except what was revealed. While some were expecting Returnal 2 or DLC via a free update, the team took everyone by surprise with a big collaboration. Dark Horse Comics is partnering with Housemarque to extend Selene’s journey through an 88-page graphic novel, Returnal: Fallen Asteria, which will be available October 22/23, 2024.
“Returnal Fallen Asteria is our bold expansion of the game universe with a new story that follows Selene. This is a brilliant graphic novel that expands on our dark, deep and beautiful thriller” explains creative director Gregory Louden (via Gamesradar). Ahead of the release in a few months, Dark Horse has designed an animated adaptation of the first issue which is available for free on YouTube.
But that’s not all because the publisher is also working on a 224-page Returnal artbook of which the company has the secret. And looking at the contents of the box, expect a nice collector’s item. Dark Horse Comics has notably collaborated with PlayStation on books The Last of Us 2 and Horizon Forbidden West. “It will bring together illustrations of the biomes and terrifying enemies, as well as behind-the-scenes commentary from the game’s creative team”.
