A fuss about calculation – the new building land tax remains a bone of contention

The building land tax remains controversial. The ÖVP still locates an increase before it is raised for the first time. SPÖ regional councilor Heinrich Dorner immediately rejects this.

As reported, the first letters of information about the levy will go out to affected property owners in June. The first notifications will be sent out in August. The ÖVP is again criticizing. According to state manager Patrik Fazekas, the levy will be increased again before the notices are issued: “The SPÖ’s sole government has waited until Statistics Austria has published the new property prices.” Since the calculation of the levy would be based on this data, there would be one Increase. As an example, Fazekas Mörbisch cites where in the future a 1,050-square-foot property will have to pay a tax of 1,403.95 euros – 137 euros more per year than before the country manager. The ÖVP continues to call for the abolition of the levy and announces legal action. According to Fazekas, the new prices have already been included in the ÖVP’s online building land tax calculator. “Deliberate untruths” “The state ÖVP deliberately spreads untruths and continues its anti-Burgenland policy,” countered SPÖ state councilor Heinrich Dorner. After the information letter went out, landowners would have four weeks to report any exceptions. If nothing is asserted, the levy will be collected in the autumn. For the calculation, either the Statistics Austria price or the levy is calculated based on the affordable building land price decreed by the state – whichever is lower. According to Dorner, this has been communicated for months. Those affected could contact the state’s information hotline. That’s why the “ÖVP calculator” was wrong from the start. “With our measures in the field of building land mobilization, we are setting important trends in order to provide young families with affordable building land,” said the provincial councilor.
