Samsung would like to break the codes of its foldable smartphones by launching a model under €1000.
Alongside its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, Samsung is preparing to release a more affordable foldable smartphone, possibly under the FE suffix. This is a rumor that we had already mentioned in February following the revelations of WinFuture. Today, the South Korean magazine Sinsa Journal corroborates these statements with new elements, including the price of this famous inexpensive foldable smartphone. 800 dollarsthis is the amount mentioned.
By adding the various French and European taxes, we can count on a foldable smartphone for less than €1000. But this doesn’t tell us the form-factor of this device and no source is getting wet at the moment.
Z Fold FE or Z Flip FE?
Smartphone, tablet or flip? Fold or Flip cheaper, in short. Since we are supposedly talking about an FR model, we can make a guess based on the Galaxy S23. The latter was released at €959 and its downgraded version, the S23 FE, was launched at €699.
In fact, we have a difference of €250. If the affordable foldable Galaxy that we are waiting for is priced at less than €1,000, it would maintain this same price difference with a Z Flip, with the Z Flip 5 selling for €1,199 when it is released in summer 2023. With a Fold, Samsung would cut prices too much, its latest Z Fold 5 requiring an investment of €1,599. Furthermore, the Sinsa Journal talks about a photo module containing a dual sensor. The Z Fold has three. It’s the Z Flip that makes do with two, the space available for its components being limited by the hinge.
A Galaxy Z Flip 5 FE with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3?
This Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 FE (Samsung taking the name of the previous high-end to characterize its FE), if we can call it that, would also be team “a processor, screen and battery with lowered specifications”specifies Sisa Journal.
The Americans are talking about a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, recently unveiled by Qualcomm. This high-end chip is not as powerful as an 8 Gen 3, but also less expensive, which would be a perfect match for a more affordable Z Flip. As a reminder, the presentation of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 is expected this summer.
