a gaming mouse that doesn’t lack bite

Razer aims to offer the best wireless gaming mouse on the market with the Viper V3 Pro. Light, refined, equipped with a new high-performance sensor and ergonomics that have already proven themselves, it has what it takes to appeal to players who want to shine in competitive titles. The essential accessory to ride on everyone in multiplayer?

Razer Viper V3 Pro

Razer calls it “the GOAT of esports mice.” The Viper V3 Pro, new version of the Viper range, does everything to appeal to fans of competitive games or amateurs who want the best of the best to shine in Valorant or League of Legends. To convince, the Californian brand plays the card of simplicity, but also performance.

The Viper V3 Pro promises to be ultra light, sober, ergonomic but also efficient thanks to its new sensor which can go up to 35,000 DPI. What’s new is also the presence of a HyperPolling dongle up to 8000 Hz for better response time. On paper, it’s strong.

Top ergonomics

Razer does not change a winning team and takes the design of the previous Viper V3. We thus have a field mouse either black or white (White Edition) as our test specimen. A color with the most beautiful effect which gives a real personality to the product. As for the design, the Californian brand went as simple as possible to provide optimal comfort.

First thing, the Viper V3 Pro is extremely light, with only 55 grams on the scale. A real strength for ultra-nervous titles like Valorant or League of Legends. We particularly appreciate the shape of the device, very pleasant in the hand, even if we regret the absence of a thumb rest. The Viper also has the merit of adapting perfectly to both types of players: those who like to have it firmly anchored in the palm as well as those who are gripped on it in “claw” mode.

The chassis is made of plastic and feels pleasant under the palm. Its soft texture prevents sweating even after several hours of play. An excellent point. For those who want more roughness for better grip, grips to stick on the chassis are provided in the box. A good idea.

Important point : there are no RGB LEDs on the Viper, which is almost a miracle on a Razer product! The brand has in fact reduced all the “useless” artifices in order to lighten the mouse as much as possible. This is not a fault, far from it, but it is worth noting.

Regarding the buttons, the two main clicks are slightly concave with switches which have a short and efficient travel. The latter, 3e generation from Razer, offer excellent resistance in addition to a silent click (less than 60 db). The two side buttons are placed naturally under the thumb and, like the others, are effective and pleasant. The button to adjust the DPI is placed below, next to the sensor. There is no risk of accidentally pressing it. The only weakness concerns the wheel, which is a bit too resistant for our taste and cannot be tilted to the sides.

Under the mouse, two large skates and a smaller one provide exemplary, smooth gliding. The Viper V3 Pro is a wireless mouse; a HyperPolling dongle is provided in the box and represents one of the major arguments of the product, we will come back to this. This connects via USB to your PC using a 200 centimeter braided wire (USB Type-A to Type-C) which is also used for charging using the USB Type-C port located on the front of the mouse. It has a small LED that allows you to have a quick look at the battery level of our Viper. Practical. Even more, it has a rubber pad that allows it to remain well positioned on your desk.

In use, all these elements mean that the Viper V3 Pro is extremely pleasant on a daily basis, whether for gaming or for classic office use. We particularly like its simple, no-fuss design which provides optimal comfort. Even if we prefer the Basilisk V3 Po on this point, the Viper is one of the most pleasant mice on the market.

Optimal performance

The Viper V3 Pro is equipped a new optical sensor that can go up to 35,000 DPI. While it is not necessarily necessary to go to such an extreme, this translates into a high-performance and precise sensor, which should appeal to fans of competitive FPS. This sensitivity can obviously be adjusted via Razer’s Synapse software (which also allows you to create profiles). The latter allows you to establish up to 5 levels which can be changed on the fly via the button located under the chassis. The acceleration, for its part, is 70G maximum, which again is a major advantage for titles where responsiveness is paramount, from FPS to RTS to MOBAs. All other games, even quieter single-player titles, benefit from this performance. He who can do more can do less.

As we said above, connectivity is one of the major assets of the Viper V3 Pro. No Bluetooth connection here, so plugging in the supplied dongle is mandatory. It features Razer’s HyperPolling technology, with a response time of up to 8000 Hz (extremely high, double that of the Basilisk V3 Pro). A frequency which will be useful for the most demanding, but once again, it is possible to adjust this aspect in Synapse, by opting for the more conventional 1000 Hz, or even 500 Hz or 125 Hz. A real asset on the scene of competitive peripherals.

Finally, let’s talk about autonomy. Razer promises 95 hours in 1000 Hz mode and 17 hours in 8000 Hz mode. For this last figure, the promise is kept, since we had to use our Viper for three days to drain its battery. For use at 1000 Hz, we did not have to recharge it during our week of testing. Here again, the calculations are good. The Viper recharges from 1 to 100% in just over an hour when plugged into the PC. A good thing, especially since it remains usable in this situation

So, should we buy?

It remains to ask the question that kills: so, should we buy? A mouse at this price isn’t really cheap, but is it really worth the price? We used it for a little over a week and our response is simple. Yes, the Viper V3 Pro is a fantastic field mouse, enjoyable and really enjoyable in online gaming, but it’s not for everyone.

Razer Viper V3 ProRazer Viper V3 Pro

Razer’s mouse provides excellent sensations, whether in-game or in everyday life. For our part, we mainly experienced it in Helldivers 2, Valorant, WoW Plunderstorm and Overwatch 2. But let’s admit it, we are not really fans of competitive games in the editorial office. In fact, the technical capabilities of the mouse, as advanced as they are, are a bit “overkill” for our use… and we are not the only ones in this case. It still proves comfortable for titles less focused on competition like Diablo 4.

Razer Viper V3 ProRazer Viper V3 Pro

In fact, only those who want to perform online, whether on Valorant, League of Legends, Counter Strike or Fortnite will find what they are looking for. Others will see a mouse that is pleasant to use, comfortable and light, but could easily turn to cheaper products. In summary, the Viper V3 Pro is one of the best mice on the market, but it is not for everyone. If you are the type to play only competitive titles, it’s made for you.
