A new giga-factory of batteries for electric vehicles
must see the light of day in Dunkirk. This is good news both in terms of local jobs, as well as prospects and the transition to a European battery supply model.

The Verkor firm has made its choice. Among the forty sites investigated in Spain, France and Italy, it is therefore Dunkirk that has obtained the favors of the company. And for good reason, this site meets all the firm’s expectations, whether in terms of ” land, logistics, energy capacity, proximity to customers, access to skilled labor and scalability “.
Thus, nearly 1,200 direct jobs and more than 3,000 indirect jobs will benefit from this launch of activity in Dunkirk. Verkor’s Research and Development center will remain in Grenoble. The firm also plans a production capacity equivalent to 16 GWh in 2025, and 50 GWh in 2030. The objective is to supply the market for batteries for electric vehicles as well as for batteries in large-volume stationary storage. .
Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Industry, welcomed this establishment. ” Mastering the entire battery value chain is essential to the transition to electric mobility. I welcome this new important step by Verkor. Their choice of location reinforces “the valley of the electric battery” which is emerging in the Hauts de France, as well as its dynamic ecosystem […] “. Remember that Verkor was founded in 2020 with the support of other firms such as IDEC, Schneider Electric, Arkema and Renault. The latter has also officially launched its Renault ElectriCity site not far from there, in Douai.
